Emperor Yuan's name was Liu Shuang, and he was born among the people in the sixth year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Zhao (75 BC). Liu Shuang was the eldest son of Emperor Xuan and was established as the prince in the third year of Dijie (67 BC). In December of the first year of Huanglong (49 BC), Emperor Xuan died of illness, and Liu Shuang became emperor. During the Yuan Dynasty, the Western Han Dynasty had gone through more than 150 years and had accumulated many shortcomings. The Yuan Emperor was stupid and weak, unable to eliminate his shortcomings. Coupled with the eunuchs' manipulation and political corruption, the Western Han Dynasty embarked on the path of decline.
