A spirit cat made a mistake and was punished by the gods, sent down to the human world on a mission to save the daughter of the Lonely God. The daughter is undergoing a tribulation in the mortal realm. (Poor thing: she's cursed and still has to face a tribulation.) The cat's mission is to make sure the cursed girl isn't lonely and to help her find happiness.
The Great Emperor grabbed the spirit cat by the scruff of its neck: Down you go. Make this human happy.
The witch's curse: May the daughter of the Lonely God be forever lonely and suffer.
Lonely God is just her name. She herself has plenty of friends.
