A Lifelong Wish

After a renowned local anti-Japanese hero was killed, his daughter Shuixiu was adopted. When Shuixiu was sixteen, she met Li Jian, a learned and steadfast underground member of the Communist Party of China. Under his care and guidance, Shuixiu gradually matured, and she fell deeply in love with him. Later, after a traitor betrayed him, Li Jian was arrested and killed.

Shuixiu's adoptive father was a profiteering merchant. He agreed on the surface to let her marry Li Jian, but secretly sold her to Yang Zhixian, a drug addict.

An accident took Yang Zhixian's life, and then a flood destroyed Shuixiu's home, leaving her to wander from place to place.

While fleeing famine, she was taken in by Shi Fuxiang.

Shi Fuxiang treated Shuixiu's daughter Wenxiu as his own. They lived happily together and had another daughter, Xuelian.

Just as Shuixiu thought she could finally enjoy a peaceful, happy life, she was repeatedly harassed by Shi Laowu, a local thug. The thug also caused the death of Shuixiu's eldest daughter, Wenxiu, and Shi Fuxiang was arrested after being framed by him. Taking advantage of the situation, the thug violated Shuixiu...

Later, the thug died, and Shuixiu should have been able to live in peace. But after hearing from the thug that Shuixiu had once been defiled, her daughter Xuelian couldn't forgive her mother and ran away from home. Someone took her in, and she studied hard until she was admitted to university.

While at school, Xuelian was nearly raped by a criminal as she walked back to her dorm after evening study. Having suffered the same kind of ordeal, she finally understood her mother's predicament and forgave her. She hurried home to visit her, only to learn that Shuixiu had died after falling ill from longing for her daughter and losing her mind. Reading the diary her mother left behind, Xuelian finally learned of her mother's tragic life!
