In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, the emperor of the Tang Dynasty, was killed during a secret visit to the Western Dynasty. Three monks from Jiangtian Temple worked hard to save him. Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty, in order to thank the monks of Jiangtian Temple and the mountain people for their life-saving grace, donated Jiangtian Temple and changed it to Jiangshan Temple. Later, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty went to Jiangshan Temple to find his father. He saw that Jiangshan Temple had great achievements and learned that the temple had once housed his biological father. In order to appreciate the kindness of his adoptive father and commend his achievements in running the temple, Jiangtian Temple was given as a special gift and was renamed Jiangshan Temple. Later, the monks of Jiangshan Temple became corrupt and Jiangshan Temple could not operate, so Jiangshan Temple replaced it.
