King Ping of Zhou (about 781 BC - 720 BC), the first king of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in China. The son of King You of the Western Zhou Dynasty. His surname is Ji and his given name is Yijiu. Reigned from 770 BC to 720 BC. He is the son of King You of Zhou, and his mother is Queen Shen, the royal wife of King You. Empress Shen is the daughter of Marquis Shen. In 771 BC, King You of Zhou was killed by the Dog Rong. The capital city of Haojing (southwest of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province today) was invaded by the Dog Rong and was very damaged. Prince Yijiu was supported by princes such as Shen, Xu, and Lu, and ascended the throne in Shen (now north of Nanyang, Henan) as King Ping.
