This book was compiled after the author's death by his friend, philosopher and full-time editor François Val. This anthology is not only rich and comprehensive in content, but also well-edited and well-edited, making it easier for readers to systematically grasp the author's thoughts. Therefore, it became quite popular after its publication in 1985 and has been translated into many languages. This selection actually consists of two parts: the principles and practices of narrative semiotics, and the analysis of the meaning of historical thought and modern culture based on semiotic methods (including the analysis of the history of classical rhetoric).
