Pei Xiu (224-271), courtesy name Ji Yan, was a minister and scholar of the Western Jin Dynasty. He was a native of Wenxi, Hedong (now Wenxi County, Shanxi Province) during the Wei and Jin Dynasties. During the Three Kingdoms period, he served as a regular attendant of Sanqi and a minister of the Three Kingdoms period, Pushe of Shangshu, a doctor of Guanglu and Sikong of Jin Dynasty, and was granted the title of Duke of Julu County. He wrote the "Yu Gong Regional Map" and pioneered ancient cartography in my country. Joseph Needham called him "the father of Chinese scientific cartography". He is as famous as Ptolemaeus Claudius (approximately 90-168 AD), the famous ancient Greek cartographer in Europe. They are two brilliant stars in the history of ancient cartography in the world.
