The chess game, already pushed to the brink of defeat, sprang to life with his arrival.

Just because I bear a destined fate, the Buddha says I must live, and I can live; the Buddha says I must fetch the scriptures, and I must go; the Buddha says I must die, and all I can do is die! My fate is mine to control, not Heaven's! Who wants that fate granted by Heaven? Who cares about that hollow glory? You want me dead? Then I'll live just to spite you.”
