In 266 BC, King Zhao of Qin expelled Wei Ran, who was arrogant in power, appointed Fan Ju as prime minister, and actively implemented Fan Ju's strategy of "diplomacy at a distance and attack at close range". To make distant relations and attack closely, first focus the struggle on Han and Zhao who are nearby, temporarily ignore Qi and Yan who are further away, and stabilize Chu and Wei. Thus "getting an inch is a king's inch, and getting a ruler is a king's ruler."
