"Tess" is one of Hardy's important masterpieces. If Tess could be bolder, more aggressive like most girls trained in rural areas, not so docile and weak, and have less strong self-esteem, maybe the story would have a different ending. Tess has more pain in her life. As the saying goes, life is unsatisfactory nine times out of ten, but Tess still has three happinesses. One is her love with Claire, which is very happy!
