The desert shimmered with heat.
Today was my last day traveling in Egypt.
I rode a camel with my guide until we reached a temple.
Its stone walls were covered in hieroglyphs, inscrutable and hard to understand.
I looked up at the face of a gigantic statue towering above me.
The face was so familiar, yet for a moment I couldn't remember who it belonged to.
In a flash, I froze.
Th-this was me, wasn't it?
I was so shocked that I could barely take it in...
I shouted and screamed, drawing the attention of the guide and the other tourists.
"The statue's face is exactly like mine! The statue's face is just like mine..."
The crowd stared at me in confusion.
Suddenly, I opened my mouth wide, but no sound came out. I choked up.
Because I saw something even more shocking.
