On the Fengyun Continent, humans, gods, and demons each hold sway over their own territory. With their powerful warriors, the gods claimed the skies and built a city among the clouds. The gods and humans were once on friendly terms, but after several wars, the gods had suffered heavy losses. At last, the alliance was torn apart, and the gods withdrew from the battlefield. Over the following millennia, the demons' innate ability to sense spiritual energy more keenly gave rise to countless powerful warriors within their lands. The humans were driven back again and again. To defend the last of their territory, the ancestors of humanity built sixteen great cities along natural barriers, and struggled to hold the line through the long years. These defenders became known as the Border Guardians. In a small city beyond Wangyue Pass, Li Nian begins as a boy living a hard life. After going through countless trials and meeting countless friends, he gradually grows up and embarks on a campaign to determine the fate of humanity...
