When the sun and moon rose at the same time, everyone knew they had once again failed to seize their chance in this life. The conflicts between the various races remained unresolved. Instead, with the gods’ emissaries fanning the flames, war between the races erupted once more on a vast scale. The gods, who loved all living things on earth, saw how cruel their beloved creations had become. Not only did the races slaughter one another and fight for territory, but within each race, everyone was suspicious and scheming against everyone else. All the gods’ emissaries appointed to the world had proved useless. Enraged, the gods brought down their final judgment upon the continent, cleansing every trace of civilization and leaving not a speck of filth behind. Then they created new life and appointed new emissaries to resolve the conflicts, hoping the races would live in peace this time. But when conflict arose between the races again and the emissaries failed once more, the gods passed judgment again. The continent’s civilizations repeated this cycle over and over, until the continent was given a name of its own: Phoenix.
