A Plain-Language Commentary on the Four Instructions of Liaofan

How can you persuade a wise person to guide you? How can you gain wisdom? How can you attain wealth and splendor? How can you live with clarity and joy? How can you change your fate? How can you rise from the depths and make a triumphant comeback in life? Master Yuan Liao shares the lessons he learned through his own life. Drawing on personal experience, Confucian, Buddhist, and Daoist thought, as well as mythology and history, the book explains in detail how cultivating virtue can bring people great benefits. It can help cleanse the heart, soothe a restless mind, and reshape a positive outlook on life. Reading it can help you gain insight, understand the Way, and grasp its principles, laying a firm spiritual foundation for life and pointing you toward a path you can follow. Classical Chinese should not be an obstacle to anyone seeking the brilliant thought of Chinese civilization. That is why I have created an accessible guide to this classic. For everyone interested in exploring Chinese thought, I have translated it line by line into detailed vernacular Chinese and included my own understanding. The goal is to make profound ideas accessible: simple, direct, clear, and easy to understand, so that everyone can read it and gain something from it.
