When Grandpa Shiniu was a bandit, he kidnapped Grandma, but she fell in love with this passionate, brave man. They remained devoted to each other through decades of married life and had two sons and a daughter: Shifeng, Shisong, and Shiliu.
Shifeng lost a leg fighting in the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam. With Grandma's help, he married Yuzhen, a farmer's daughter, and they had twins, Shipei and Shiwen. Shipei and Wang Jie, his high school classmate, overcame many twists and turns to marry, but he died in the line of duty during a mission. Shiwen pursued romantic love and suffered deeply for it.
Shisong and Qiaofeng, a worker at the same factory, were brought together by a matchmaker and married. They seized the opportunities of the reform era and became among the first to grow wealthy, but Shisong was later imprisoned for accidentally killing someone. His daughter Shixue went from being a rich second-generation kid to belonging to a poor family overnight.
When Shiliu was a sent-down youth, she defied her mother's wishes and fell in love with fellow youth Li Weimin. After they returned to the city, they worked hard to build a prosperous life and had a daughter, Lulu. A third party came between them, leading to Lulu's tragic death. Devastated by the loss of her daughter, Shiliu lost all hope and wanted to end her life.
Though the Shi family eventually emerged from the darkness, their lives could never return to what they had been.
This novel tells the story of a family's joys and sorrows, with a captivating, eventful plot that lingers in the mind.
This is a traditional short novel I wrote some time ago, and it may not fit the style of online fiction, so it didn't perform very well.
