In 2070, the environment on Blue Star suddenly underwent a dramatic transformation. The rate of desertification increased exponentially every year. Crop yields plummeted, tens of thousands starved to death, and countless people died in the riots that broke out one after another. To survive, those left alive could only flood into the major cities, where resources were relatively concentrated. The land beyond the cities was gradually replaced by desert, and urbanization reached ninety percent in a short time. Major cities expanded, competing with one another for limited resources to ensure their own development. They became hostile, even going to war. Survival became the top priority, and the state had largely lost its power to impose restrictions. With no one left to keep them in check, cities began handling matters large and small on their own. Their autonomy kept growing until they gradually evolved into independent city-states. Would becoming a Resonant mean gradual destruction, or a path to revival? Could this cancerous world be rebooted?
