Mu Bai is a cat demon living in a city where humans and demons coexist peacefully.
One day, he transmigrates into a book and becomes the great villain of the cultivation novel Record of Cultivation's Turbulent Times, which he had recently been reading. He takes over the body of an elder of the Tianling Sect who shares his name. His status may be lofty, but he's the protagonist's villainous master! And he's a demon, too! How is he supposed to survive among cultivators who hate demons?!
In the novel, he takes the protagonist as his disciple and tries to make advances on him, only to die a horrible death at the protagonist's hands.
The protagonist, meanwhile, is neglected by his parents and bullied relentlessly, eventually turning evil.
Heaven is his witness: he's just a cat demon! How could he possibly treat the protagonist like that?
But the moment he meets the male lead, he thinks, Meow? What is that smell? Why can't I resist it? In the middle of the night, he transforms into a kitten and seeks the male lead out.
The protagonist smells like catnip!!!
And so, Mu Bai tearfully settles into the happy routine of snuggling up to the protagonist every day.
Mo Ran smiles at Mu Bai in his arms. Who knows which of them is really getting their fix?
