Set against the backdrop of Xuefeng Mountain, called Snow Mountain or Fox King Mountain in the story, the Fox King Sword serves as the central clue. The story explores family ties, tragic romance, and a righteous mission, with family at its heart. Through an intense love story and a mission for justice, it tells how the fox clan's ancestor, Minxiu, led his people into hiding to escape the wars of the demon realm. To keep the evil Desire King from disturbing their peaceful lives, Minxiu turned himself into a sword and sealed him away. The story that unfolds fifty million years later is told in four parts.
The first volume, “Guarding the Family's Divine Sword,” has two parts. Part One: The seven children of Genqiu, the fox clan's twenty-fourth Fox King, return after completing their studies. His sixth son, Hu Feng, is a cold and aloof prince who changes after meeting a human orphan girl. His fifth son, Hu Yecheng, misunderstands his father Genqiu over his mother's death. One of the five demon kings guarding the divine sword, Yisi, makes the mistake of trusting the wrong friend, who leaks the sword's secret to an outsider and is used by them. This sparks the conflict. Hu Feng, the sword's chosen wielder, loses his beloved Diehua, who was also a chosen wielder, in the great battle.
Part Two of the first volume, “Guarding the Family's Divine Sword”: As he grows up, Ao Yi rescues his parents, who were captured during the great battle.
Part Three: The second volume, “If Only We Had Met as We First Were, Why Must the Autumn Wind Grieve Over the Painted Fan?” When Genqiu was young, he met the woman he loved. As an adult, he mistook his wife Fuying for that woman. They loved each other their entire lives, yet were left with a lifetime of regret and missed chances.
Part Four, “Childhood Sweethearts Cannot Escape a Love Destined to End in Sorrow.” After the battle between the fox clan and the evil Desire King, Hu Beitian is wounded and falls into a coma. He has always wished for his parents to have a happy ending. While unconscious, he begins to dream of a life in which no third party comes between his parents.
