A Mai and A Xu, the two daughters of the Duke of Jingguo of Nanxia, saw their entire family killed by Chen Qi, their childhood friend.
Years later, the sisters, now young women, disguise themselves as men and roam the martial world in search of Chen Qi so they can avenge their family.
By chance, A Mai and A Xu save Shang Yizhi, the son of the Grand Princess. A Mai goes on to help him escape danger time and again, and their fates become intertwined.
When war breaks out, A Mai and A Xu cast off their feminine attire and enlist as infantry. Thanks to her exceptional military talents, A Mai wins one remarkable victory after another and becomes Marshal Mai. A Xu, with her superb martial arts and extraordinary medical skills, accompanies her sister every step of the way. Together, they also help Shang Yizhi, who is struggling to survive while hunted, find himself and achieve greatness.
On the battlefield, A Xu repeatedly clashes with the enemy general Chang Yuqing. Away from it, fate keeps bringing them together through life-and-death ordeals. They come to understand and cherish one another, and gradually fall in love. But faced with the cruelty of war, A Xu resolutely sets aside romance and defends her army with the fire of her youth.
In the end, after the war is won, A Mai and A Xu leave the army, return to life as women, and retire to the martial world, where they eventually find happiness.
