John Rabe is known as the Schindler of Nanjing. During the Japanese occupation of Nanjing from 1937 to 1938, as chairman of the International Committee of the Nanjing Safety Zone, he rescued approximately 250,000 Chinese civilians from being killed by the Japanese army.
