An unknown, highly advanced life-form was surveying the stars when it accidentally discovered Earth. It built the Atuaba star system, gathered alien life-forms and housed them on asteroids, then recreated Earth's ecosystem on a grand scale. Humans were selected and taken to experimental planets to be trained, developed, and modified, gaining special abilities if they succeeded, or disappearing forever if the experiments failed. A group of boys abducted to an alien planet, Youla, David, and Zarb, and girls Yaqi, Yuriko, Lucy, and Lina, along with adults Selena, Ross, and Paul, formed a survival team in dire circumstances. They gathered other abductees and endured the complicated emotions of dependence and betrayal between humans and nonhumans, and between carbon-based and non-carbon-based life-forms. Leading the modified species, they searched for the planet's secrets and a way to survive and return home. Through one perilous adventure after another, they gradually uncovered the shocking truth behind the abductions: an unknown advanced civilization had sensed the edge of the universe and was concentrating energy to break through its evolutionary bottleneck and wage a cosmic war. A civilization of the next-highest order was using advanced technology to modify species, hoping to shorten the cycle of biological evolution and create the strongest eternal species, so it could manipulate events from behind the scenes and replace the higher civilization as the dominant power in the universe. Its excessive interference in the evolution of life and its energy-gathering operations provoked the humans, the silicon-based life-form Krausi from the Centaurus system, and the parasitic civilization Wogong into rebellion. Meanwhile, the higher civilization's life-form Xiu also faced various threats of mutation and regression in the aftermath of the cosmic war.
