[Reverse: 1999 story collection] [Original setting] [Retro] [Arcane arts] Beneath a gloomy sky, water suddenly welled up across the ground. An arcanist named Vertin stood in the rain, lightly touching the raindrops with her fingertips. At that moment, a torrential "Storm" poured down, like a vast curtain of water.
People and things gradually peeled away in the rain, dissolving into chaos. This familiar world seemed to be reshaped by an invisible force, carried toward a new old era.
Everyone but Vertin vanished without a trace under the "Storm's" erosion. Vertin was both a witness to this era and the guardian of this world.
In this mysterious world, there is a group called the Manus Vindictae, devoted to restoring the glory of arcanists. Their presence draws attention like heretics, yet they possess the wisdom of prophets. Vertin knows that the Manus Vindictae's covert schemes and movements are deeply connected to the forces behind the "Storm."
Vertin is a member of the St. Pavlov Foundation, an organization dedicated to sheltering scholars who possess mysterious powers.
After the "Storm" arrives each year, Vertin and her assistant Sonetto travel through different eras and countries in search of arcanists able to sense the signs of change. They help these scholars escape the "Storm" and avoid its erosion.
