Yuan Longping is a dreamer. He has a dream in his heart: to make rice grow as tall as sorghum, with ears as long as brooms, and grains as big as peanuts. He looks forward to sitting under the ears of rice with his friends to enjoy the coolness and drink tea. Yuan Longping only did one thing in his life - he spent sixty years researching, applying and promoting hybrid rice technology so that China's more than one billion people could have enough to eat. He made outstanding contributions to my country's food security, the development of agricultural science and the world's food supply. He was known as the "Rice God" of the East. When he was a young teacher, he had the courage to challenge the world's authority; when he was over eighty years old and famous all over the world, he still remained indifferent to fame and fortune and studied hard in the fields. Yuan Longping is the "father of hybrid rice" and "recipient of the Medal of the Republic". He brings green hope and golden harvest to mankind in fighting hunger.
