A Tumultuous Fate

This is a long, realistic novel imbued with a strong sense of social responsibility. The author dares to confront reality, depicting with extraordinary courage and conscience the lives of a generation of people over the thirty years of reform and opening up. The protagonists, Ma Shengli, Lin Tiemei, and Bao Er, are outstanding Chinese workers. They possess noble revolutionary ideals, face hardship and fate head-on, and dare to fight corruption and evil. They embody the brilliance of idealism and revolutionary fervor. Gao Hongqi, Li Yuejin, and others stand in stark contrast: they are despicable, selfish, greedy, heartless, and unjust. They use any means necessary to seize money and power, serving as typical parasites within enterprises and representatives of corrupt officials. By portraying people of the same generation with different personalities and fates, the novel boldly and profoundly reflects on society and life, particularly the reform of state-owned enterprises.
