"The Yin Beast" is the fourth volume of "Edogawa Ranpo's Collection of Works", which contains four mystery novellas by Edogawa Ranpo. In Ranpo's creative career of more than 40 years, there were only four novellas. "The Yin Beast" is Luan Bu's first work after he stopped writing. The story unfolds between two mystery novelists and the beautiful wife Jingzi. The two novelists belong to the original school and the changed school respectively. One is "I" Hankawa of the original school and is also the narrator of the story, and the other is Oe Chunni of the changed school.
One day Hanchuan met Jingzi in the museum. Afterwards, the two exchanged letters. A few months later, Jingzi was threatened by Chunni and asked Hanchuan for help. Soon Jingzi's husband Rokuro was killed. How did Hanchuan reason, who was the murderer, and who was Oe Chunni? This is a masterpiece of original mystery novels that combines eroticism, strangeness, absurdity (characteristics of Taisho period popular culture) and reasoning. One of Ranpo's masterpieces.

This book has a unique writing style, delicate writing, ups and downs of plot, and is full of suspense and surprise. The reasoning process in the story is fascinating, making me feel like I am involved in the case and looking for the truth with the protagonist. Moreover, the portrayal of human nature in the book is also very profound, which resonated with me a lot. Overall, "The Dark Beast" is a masterpiece worth reading!
