Lin Yin was pushed down the stairs by her best friend. When she opened her eyes again, a strange man was sleeping beside her. She had become the doomed first wife of a powerful man in a story set in a bygone era, and she hadn’t even lived to see the 1977 college entrance exam. Staying alive and keeping him wrapped around her finger were the things she could do best right now. But it seemed she didn’t need to do a thing: the man was already sniffing around her like a puppy.
Jiang Tan looked up at the woman before him, full of longing. “Yinyin, I can give you a love that’s yours alone, steadfast and true. Will you stay by my side?”
Lin Yin: “...You’re trying to seduce me. Is that really appropriate...?”
Jiang Tan’s eyes were hazy, the corners tinged red. His features were bright and beautiful. “Yinyin, I love you so much. Do you love me?”
Lin Yin: “...Even without you trying to seduce me, that face would make my heart flutter...”
(Lin Yin: wood that grows naturally and thrives with life. Jiang Tan: clear water gathered in a deep pool. I can live well without you, but with you, we’ll both live even better.)
The heroine is not like a modern person
The female protagonist has no skills at all. She can step on anyone who comes up to her. She only acts aggressively towards the male protagonist. She always thinks about leaving, but she has no ability to protect herself.
A very nice piece of period writing, the more you read it, the better it gets.
