I Became the Heavenly Dao from the Primordial Chaos

I arose from the primordial chaos to become the Heavenly Dao, presided over the Investiture of the Gods, became the fifth figure in Journey to the West, and displayed my divine powers alongside the Eight Immortals as they crossed the sea.

I would like to acknowledge Investiture of the Gods, Journey to the West, The Eight Immortals Cross the Sea (also known as Journey to the East), and the tale of Madam White Snake’s eternal imprisonment beneath Leifeng Pagoda from Stories to Caution the World.

Journey to the East, also known as The Eight Immortals’ Lives and The Eight Immortals’ Origins in Journey to the East, consists of fifty-six chapters. It was written by Wu Yuantai during the Ming dynasty. The book recounts the legends of the Eight Immortals and the paths to enlightenment taken by Tieguai Li, Han Zhongli, Lü Dongbin, Zhang Guolao, Lan Caihe, He Xiangu, Han Xiangzi, and Cao Guojiu. The Dragon Prince Mo Jie steals Lan Caihe’s jade tablet, prompting the Eight Immortals to battle the Dragon King. In the end, Sun Wukong defeats the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals.

Stories to Caution the World is a collection of vernacular short stories compiled by Feng Menglong in the late Ming dynasty. Completed in 1624, it contains forty stories and adapted stories from the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties.
