"Journey to the East", also known as "The Legend of the Eight Immortals in Shangdong" and "Journey to the East from the Origin of the Eight Immortals", has fifty-six chapters in total. The author is Wu Yuantai of the Ming Dynasty. The content is the myths and legends of the Eight Immortals, describing the process of their cultivation and attainment of Taoism by Tieguaili, Han Zhongli, Lu Dongbin, Zhang Guolao, Lan Caihe, He Xiangu, Han Xiangzi and Cao Guojiu. The Dragon Prince Mojie took away Lan Caihe's jade tablet, and the Eight Immortals fought with the Dragon King. In the end, Sun Wukong defeated the heavenly soldiers and generals.
"Warning Words" is a collection of short stories in vernacular compiled by Feng Menglong in the late Ming Dynasty. Completed in the fourth year of Tianqi (1624), it contains 40 scripts and pseudo-hua scripts from the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties.
