The Regent's Foolish Consort

The marquis’s residence was decked out for a celebration today, with bright red silk and brocade hanging all over the courtyard.

I was happily watching the excitement through the little window of the woodshed, while Laifu wagged his tail excitedly beside me.

The next moment, a nanny dragged me into my legitimate elder sister’s room.

Laifu barked “Woof, woof, woof!” several times, but it did no good.

I trembled with fear, but Father smiled kindly and said, “A Lan may be foolish, but she really is beautiful. The Prince Regent will like her.”

My elder sister smiled at me and said, “Little sister, you’re going to be the Prince Regent’s wife. Make sure you hold on to this incredible fortune.”

They dressed me in a bright red wedding gown and stuffed me into the bridal sedan chair.

Only after I was seated did I realize: I was the one getting married today.

Why hadn’t Father told me sooner? I wanted to bring Laifu along too.
