On an island nobody paid attention to, a tree suddenly appeared one day.
For hundreds of years, the tree grew lush and green.
Hundreds of years later, an old immortal with a white beard happened upon the island. Seeing the huge tree, he couldn’t help marveling at nature’s generosity. He blessed the tree, hoping it would gain intelligence.
Another few hundred years passed, and the creatures on the island discovered that the tree had borne fruit. What a momentous occasion! Every creature on the island cheered and celebrated. Sadly, the tree had produced only one peach. Wait, was this a peach tree? Why had it never blossomed? And why did it look so different from the peach trees people described in the mortal realm?
Before long, a thousand years had passed, and the peach could talk! It was the biggest event on the island, and all the islanders warmly welcomed Xiao Tao. She was so happy. She felt incredibly lucky, spending every day chatting with Sister Rabbit, learning beauty tips from Miss Flowers, learning how to protect herself from Brother Ginseng, and discussing storybooks with Brother Fox.
Then one day, Brother Fox told her he was going to cultivate immortality. He wanted to become powerful and restore the island to its former glory. When Xiao Tao heard that she could become powerful too, she insisted on cultivating immortality as well. Brother Fox promised to teach her when he returned from finding a master.
Xiao Tao waited a long time, but Brother Fox never came back. So she decided to cultivate immortality on her own.
