The heroine, Shen Li, was kidnapped and sold as a child, leaving her with no choice but to live at the mercy of others. She was renamed Su Ting. Su Wan, the daughter of the family that bought her, is cruel and competitive. Su Ting reunites with Lin Mushen at high school, but neither of them recognizes the other.
Su Ting and Lin Mushen eventually fall in love. But when Lin Mushen sees Su Wan's little rabbit necklace, he assumes Su Wan is the lost Shen Li, and begins showing her every kind of favoritism.
To bully Shen Li, Su Wan blames her for every misdeed. Trying to make amends, Lin Mushen bullies Shen Li without restraint and takes Su Wan's side.
In the end, Shen Li loses all hope of living and dies after enduring endless torment. Only then does Lin Mushen learn that Su Ting was the real Shen Li all along.
Consumed by grief and regret, Lin Mushen takes his own life. Su Wan goes mad because her love is unrequited, and eventually drowns.
Su Wan's mother also goes mad after losing her daughter.
Shen Li's parents devote themselves to fighting human trafficking, hoping to save more families and help them reunite as soon as possible.
