The Calamity of the Immortal’s Fall

A down-on-his-luck scholar who loved writing poetry even more than wandering the world wrote poems about the various cultivation realms.

But he didn’t care much for martial artists, so he left out their realms.

This enraged every martial artist under heaven.

After they caught him, they forced him to write a four-line poem.

Martial artists: ??? What’s that supposed to mean? Everyone else gets one, but we don’t? Write one, or we’ll beat you to death!

A frail scholar, with a bruised and swollen face, disheveled clothes, and messy hair, watched a group of tall, burly men walk away into the distance. From the way they had their arms around each other’s shoulders, they seemed very happy.

Unable to stop himself, the scholar raised his middle finger at their backs.

“Hey! What are you pointing at us for? Looking down on us? Just so you know, our ears are sharp!”

“No, no, I’m drawing a circle.”

“A circle? What the hell for?”

“Draw a circle on the ground, and may you sleep forever.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“The world is vast. I wish you all a good night’s sleep.”

“You swear?”

“Scholars never drag children into their promises.”

“…”

From then on, martial artists loved using that line to bless one another.

For a while, they even thought it was the fifth and sixth lines of the poem. They had two more lines than everyone else, and they were damn happy about it.

That is, until they met a martial artist who had received an education.

And so began the scholars’ nightmare.
