Heroine Ning Jiuwei: Her beauty is renowned throughout the world; Xishi herself could not outshine Ning Jiuwei.
Hero Gu Yunzhi: “I’m right here in these mountains, but the clouds are so deep you can’t see me.”
One heroine, a master-disciple romance. The hero is a swordsmanship prodigy in the early story, so obsessed with the way of the sword that he knows nothing of love. In the middle and later parts, he falls in love with his master, Ning Jiuwei. In the end, they join hands to protect humanity and create a legend together.
Gu Yunzhi: What I want is to reach the pinnacle of swordsmanship, cut down the evil of this world with a single strike, and restore peace to the human realm. Oh! I’ve gone off topic. After decades of cultivation, I almost forgot where I came from. I still hope that one day I can find a place hidden deep in the clouds with my master, and stay by her side forever. After all, how many truly attain the Dao, never knowing that all along they dreamed of being fish? He flashes a wicked smile. “Master, here I come.”
Ning Jiuwei: Yunzhi, I have been away from the world for a long time, and things out there have fallen into chaos. My disciple, you may go down the mountain and gain experience. Remember, there is always someone greater, and there are worlds beyond this one. Do not act rashly when trouble arises. But if anyone bullies you, you need not hold back. And if anyone uses their strength to pick on someone weaker, I will see that justice is done. Later on: “Why are you calling me your wife? Have you forgotten your manners? Call me Master. Understood?” (The blurb doesn’t do it justice, so please read the story.)
