Chapter Five: Lost in the Ghost Fog
In the strange and fantastical adventure novel Ghost Blows Out the Light, the protagonists Hu Bayi, Wang Pangzi, and Shirley Yang form an unbreakable trio and venture deep into the underworld in search of legendary ancient tombs. The Sixteen-Character Yin-Yang Feng Shui Secret Art they carry is like a key to unlocking mysteries buried by history, leading them to unveil one hidden secret after another on their perilous journey.
When they enter a Han Dynasty underground palace forgotten by time, a bone-chilling ghost fog quietly rises from beneath the earth. This is no ordinary condensation of water vapor, but a netherworldly force formed from countless wronged souls, harboring a terror and unknown that make the heart tremble. Wherever their lamps shine, the ancient priests depicted in the murals are performing a forbidden ritual, seemingly foretelling the imminent arrival of a horrifying curse.
Hu Bayi senses the resentment in the air growing ever stronger, as though every inch of space is filled with the wails and anguish of the dead. Carefully parting the thousand-year-old ghost fog, they discover that behind an apparently ordinary bronze coffin lies a “Gate of the Ghosts” spanning the boundary between life and death. The spirits once buried deep underground are now stirring, intending to use the trio’s intrusion to break free of the underworld’s restraints and return to the world of the living.
Faced with increasingly dangerous mechanisms and hidden fearsome creatures, the trust and ingenuity shared by the trio become the only forces they can rely on. They must not only find a way out of the perilous underground labyrinth, but also uncover the ancient curse hanging over this land, preventing an indescribable evil force from breaking through the constraints of dimensions.
