The Gold-Spitting Girl

I'm the only one in my clan who was raised to spit gold.

Unlike my sisters, who spit out bugs and snakes, I spit out gold nuggets.

Offer me meat and I'll open my mouth to speak, and whoever offers the meat will receive a huge pile of gold nuggets.

So smoke rises from the village chimneys every day, and the smell of meat fills the air everywhere, all in the hope that I'll speak once.

But in a year of severe drought, where can anyone find meat?

I pat my belly and look at my clan, growing thinner by the day, and smile.
