Xu Sui'an had always been the kind of child other people envied: outstanding and excellent in every way. She was the jewel of the Xu family, their pride and joy, and had been well-mannered and proper from a young age. Anyone who met her would call her sensible and sweet.
Jiang Heng was the illegitimate son of the Jiang family. He told everyone that it took him just three years to fall from the altar into the abyss. He was reckless and carefree, with tattoos on his arm and cigarettes and alcohol never far from his hands.
Their lives became intertwined in the height of summer, and the sides of these young people that no one knew about came to light.
Beneath Xu Sui'an's gentle, well-behaved exterior was a rebellious, stubborn nature. The ill-tempered, ruthless Jiang Heng was sensitive and fragile. That summer, Xu Sui'an entered Jiang Heng's world.
Xu Sui'an cupped Jiang Heng's face and said, "You're a good person."
That winter, Jiang Heng finally revealed the feelings he had kept hidden.
Looking at the girl before him, Jiang Heng was uncharacteristically gentle. "Happy birthday, little dummy."
The following summer, Jiang Heng left without saying goodbye.
Xu Sui'an didn't cry. She only looked at the photo of her and Jiang Heng on her phone and murmured, "A coward's escape."
They met again years later.
The gentle girl had become President Xu, a force in the business world, while the ill-tempered boy had become the promising young President Jiang.
At their reunion years later, Jiang Heng stood in the banquet hall and grabbed Xu Sui'an's hand.
"...Wait!"
Holding her wineglass, Xu Sui'an pulled away from the hand that brought back so many memories.
"President Jiang, have we met before? It's been a while."
Years later, one night, Jiang Heng hugged Xu Sui'an and nuzzled against her, full of grievances.
"Honey, when you asked me if we'd met before, it broke my heart."
Xu Sui'an lowered her head and kissed Jiang Heng. "Has your heart healed now?"
