An Outline of Northeastern History

In 1931, the September 18 Incident broke out. At the time, Fu Sinian was in Beiping, now Beijing, serving as director of the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica and as a professor in Peking University's history department. With the nation in peril and Japanese forces trampling wantonly across the Northeast, while the Kuomintang government pursued a policy of nonresistance, Fu Sinian recognized that opposing Japanese imperialism was the Chinese nation's foremost task. In response to Japan's fallacious claim that “Manchuria and Mongolia had never been Chinese territory,” he joined historians in writing An Outline of the History of the Northeast. Using irrefutable historical evidence, the book proved that the Northeast had been an inseparable part of China since ancient times, contributing to the nation's territorial integrity and independence.
