In ancient times, there were three Changes: Lianshan, Guicang, and the Book of Changes.
People today know only that the Book of Changes survived, while Lianshan and Guicang were buried deep beneath the earth in the Mystic Ruins.
Before the Qin dynasty, there was a secret ancient kingdom called the Guixu Dynasty, omitted from the official histories. Its emperors spent their lives constructing a nine-layer grand array in the subterranean Mystic Ruins, gathering strange arts, ancient corpses, uncanny artifacts, and remnants of primordial spirits in an attempt to defy fate through the Way of the Ruins and achieve eternal life.
For a thousand years, the world has been divided among three factions:
• The Ruinskeepers: families who have guarded the nine layers of the Mystic Ruins for generations, forbidding anyone from probing the secrets below
• Ruins Raiders: the various folk tomb-robbing factions, coveting the treasures of the Mystic Ruins and entering the game generation after generation
• The Bureau of Mystic Suppression: a secret government agency through the dynasties, erasing traces of the Mystic Ruins and suppressing ancient secrets
