A Jiangnan Girl

(This is a slow-burn story: the heroine starts out as a fragile, delicate flower, then turns into a crazed killer later on. If you dislike seeing her suffer, don't read.) In her previous life, she died beneath the fireworks she loved most. As she stared at the thug looming over her, she found herself transported back to the fireworks by the river years ago, to her first meeting with the Sixth Prince. She had been shy and bashful, while he was young and accomplished. Reborn, she resolved to change her fate. She escaped the thug this time, only to be chosen as a concubine in the palace because of a conspiracy. The emperor treated her with tender affection and favored her above all the women in the palace, as if he wanted to give her every treasure in the world. But she could only smile bitterly. Everyone saw how well the emperor treated her, but no one noticed the cold indifference in his eyes. Five years later, the Sixth Prince returned from war, only to discover that the woman who had once been by his side had become the emperor's consort. At the victory banquet, fireworks filled the sky. Her face was as lovely as a peach blossom, a smile playing on her lips as she took the emperor's arm and raised her jade cup to the Sixth Prince. “May all be well with you, Your Highness.”
