A stoic firefighter ✘ a sweet, lovely middle school teacher

When Shen Nianwen’s parents are critically injured in a car accident, she agrees to what she believes is an exchange of benefits and marries Tang Jingchi, the second son of the Tang family. The Tang family promises a generous bride price and to pay for her parents’ treatment.

At a banquet, the two drink too much and sleep together. She gets pregnant after their first time, and the Tang family heir growing inside Shen Nianwen brings them closer.

As they spend day after day together, Shen Nianwen’s defenses crumble one by one. Eventually, she’s the first to confess her feelings. But was Shen Nianwen really the first to fall for Tang Jingchi? And who knows what happened five years ago…

A husband who has pledged himself to his country dares not let down the woman he loves.

He says, “I have given my life to my country. I can no longer give it to you.”

She says, “You guard the country I have entrusted to you, and I will entrust myself to you.”

He says, “I, Tang Jingchi, have never feared anything, not even death. But now I realize there’s so much I’m afraid of. I’m afraid to die. I’m afraid you’ll leave. I want to live, for you and for our child.”

She says, “If you die, I’ll die with you, in the most painful way possible. If you care about me, then stay alive.”

He goes missing during a mission…
