The Clear Kite Soars over Orchid Creek

Rumor has it that the legitimate eldest daughter of the Xie family is an idiot, an ugly woman, and inferior to her half-sister... The position of Crown Princess has even been taken by her younger stepsister.

In the grand mansions of the capital, everyone knows better than to offend the Xie family's legitimate eldest daughter, but they know even better not to offend the daughter of the concubine-promoted stepmother. After all, Xie Qingyuan lost her mother at three. Her father dotes on his concubines and has always treated her harshly, while her grandparents remain aloof and cold.

Controlled by her stepmother and bullied and put down by her younger stepsister, even her personal maid speaks to her with contempt. No matter what she says, it's wrong... Though she is the legitimate eldest daughter of a prestigious scholarly family, she lives on tenterhooks, always treated as inferior. At fourteen, weary of life, she pins her hopes on a life of austerity in a Buddhist temple. Her days are harder than those of a laundry maid.

Until, on the snowy eve of the Little New Year, another soul takes over this ill-fated body.

Jiang Lanxi won't put up with their behavior. The kind are the easiest to bully; only a wicked woman can protect herself.

The Xie family has its hierarchy all backward? She'll set it straight. The family's lowly servants defy their masters and sell them out? She'll deal with them. And as for her younger stepsister, take it easy. Before you put on a play, you need to build the stage.
