The research object of this book is the practitioners of masculinity and their same-sex desires and same-sex relationships in the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century. Among them, same-sex lust is the internal reason for the existence and continuation of masculinity, while same-sex relationships are the external form of masculinity, and are linked by the sexual relationship between the two parties, involving the economic, social and emotional relationships of both parties. This book uses a theoretically complete process of manhood practice as a framework, and places more than a thousand cases in the criminal examination question book at different stages of the process for focused investigation. It successively discusses the emergence, rejection and transformation of same-sex desires, as well as the causes, manifestations and endings of same-sex relationships, and preliminarily explores the reasons for the existence and spread of masculinity in Qing Dynasty society.
