Written by Chen Ding of the Qing Dynasty. The whole book is in one volume. It was written in the thirty-fourth year of Kangxi's reign (1695). It is a record of the author's experiences during his official travels to the southern borderlands. It describes fifty-two species of snakes in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, and Guizhou, as well as as far away as Annan, Tianfang (Mecca), and Sri Lanka (extracted from "Shan Hai Jing", ten species are not included). In addition to the "four-legged snakes", "brittle snakes" and false legends belonging to the order Lizardida, there are actually forty species of snakes.
