Synopsis

"Mei Meng Yuan" is also known as "The Wonders of Romance", "The Fate of Qiao Yan" and "The History of Romance", with forty chapters. The manuscript is signed "Feng Yuexuan and Xuan Zi", the Xiao Feng Xuan version or other later editions are signed "Feng Yue Xuan Xuan Zi". According to this book, each chapter has a general review at the end of the chapter, and the reviewer often calls himself "You Xuanzi", even in the edition signed "Feng Yuexuan Ru Xuanzi". It can be seen that it was originally supposed to be "Youxuanzi", and "Ru" is a corruption of the word "You". This book is preceded by "Narrative of Langshi" and also signed with "Title of Xuanzi", which states that ""Journey to the West" is unrestrained and broad, and "Water Margin" is melodious and plotting, but it is not appropriate for emotion. It is not as emotional and thorough as "Langshi", and its meaning can be passed on, so it is published to publicize the sentimental and ruthless people in the world." It was Zhi and Xuanzi who was also a book engraver. Chapters 37 and 38 of "Mei Meng Yuan" Cui Yingying asks Su's ancestors to tell the world about Yuan Zhen's slander in "Huizhen Ji", which is similar to the section of "Jian Deng Xin Hua: Jianhu Ye Fan Ji" about Weaver Girl's defamation.

Especially the plot where Cui Yingying defends herself from being slandered by Yuan Zhen in "Huizhen Ji" reminds me that many people are misunderstood in real life. We should speak up for ourselves bravely like Cui Yingying. Moreover, this book also allowed me to see some of the lives and emotions of ancient people, which I found very enlightening. However, the behavior of some characters in the book is indeed a bit outrageous, which makes me appreciate my current life even more. Overall, this is a book worth reading and I recommend it to you!
