The first collection of vernacular poetry in modern China. Written by Hu Shi. The first edition in March 1920 was printed by Shanghai Yadong Library. Reprinted in September of the same year. In October 1922, an updated fourth edition with the author's additions and deletions was published, and this edition has been in circulation ever since (the fourth edition has been printed several times, and there are still minor changes). In February 1984, People's Literature Publishing House rearranged the book according to the 4th edition added in 1922, and listed the contents deleted in the 4th edition at the back of the book as an appendix. The author believes in positivism in philosophy, and the title of the book is "Collection of Attempts", borrowing from Lu You's sentence "There is no success in attempts since ancient times".
