"Old Book of Tang" was written by Zhang Zhao, Jia Wei and others in the later Jin Dynasty. In the sixth year of Tianfu in the later Jin Dynasty (941), Jin Gaozu Shi Jingtang ordered Zhang Zhao, Jia Wei, Zhao Xi, Zheng Yiyi, Li Weixian and others to write a history of the Tang Dynasty, which was supervised by Prime Minister Zhao Ying. Later, Zhao Ying resigned as prime minister, and Liu Yu became the supervisor. The book was completed in the second year of Kaiyun of the Later Jin Dynasty (945). Since Liu Yu was the prime minister at that time, the book was signed by Liu Yu. Initially, Shi Jingtang named it "Book of Li" to avoid taboos. "Junzhai Shuzhi", "Zhizhai Shulu Jie", "Song History·Yiwenzhi" and the Southern Song Dynasty engravings were all titled "Tang Shu". Later, to distinguish from the "New Tang Shu" compiled by Ouyang Xiu and others in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was renamed "Old Tang Shu". There are 200 volumes in total, including 20 volumes of chronicles, 30 volumes of chronicles and 150 volumes of biographies. It is recorded from the first year of Emperor Wude of the Tang Dynasty (618) to the fourth year of Emperor Ai of the Tang Dynasty (907).
