Shengming Zaju

A collection of Ming Dynasty opera scripts. 60 Volumes. Edited by Mingren Shen Tai. It is divided into two episodes: the first episode and the second episode, each episode has 30 volumes, and each volume has 1 script. A total of 60 kinds of dramas were discovered. Shen Tai said in "Fan Li": "Things that are not happy, rhyming, strange, and interesting will not be included." "It is also like the side and humor, which is full of humor and is also included at the end of the collection. Although there are many other popular books, they are not enough to explain, so how dare you harm the pear." All the famous dramas of the Ming Dynasty such as Xu Wei's "Four-Voice Ape", Kang Hai's "Zhongshan Wolf", Chen Yujiao's "Zhaojun Leaving the Fortress", Meng Chengshun's "Peach Blossom Face", etc. Are all collected in this collection. Moreover, Shen Tai made comments on each play, pointing out the subtleties of the play's meaning, interest, theme, and words, which can help people understand and appreciate the play, and also express the editor's aesthetic thoughts and tastes. After this collection of scripts was compiled, it gave people a general understanding of the appearance of Ming Zaju. The old people said that it was "parallel with the Yuan Dynasty in hundreds of genres", and that Shen Tainai continued Zang Maoxun's career and "continued a happy event through the ages" (see the second and third prefaces to "Shengming Zaju" respectively). The first collection of "Shengming Zaju" was published in the second year of Chongzhen (1629), and the second volume was published in the fourteenth year of Chongzhen (1641). Chanfenshi reprinted the first volume in 1918 and the second volume in 1925. China Drama Publishing House photocopied and published the original version of Fen Fen in 1958.
