The Sea Sacrifice

Our village holds a sea sacrifice once every three years.

The villagers dress up the bride chosen by the Sea God in finery, then send her out to sea in a little boat.

When they sail out again, they return with a huge harvest and bring back plenty of money and food.

The family of the girl chosen as the Sea Bride gets the most of all.

The harvests have been poor these past two years, so the sea sacrifice has been moved up.

This time, my elder sister was chosen.
