After Su Xingzhi is betrayed by her fiancé, she decides to betray him in return. She meets Shen Siqing, a young marquis disguised as a male courtesan. After he takes liberties with her one night, Shen Siqing resolves to break off her engagement and obtain an imperial decree to marry her.

She thought she would have a happy life at last, but just seven days after their wedding, Qi Xuanyi seized her and destroyed it.

Qi Xuanyi forced Su Xingzhi and Shen Siqing to sign a divorce agreement, then kept Su Xingzhi by his side against her will. Yet the more he loved her, the more humble he became. In the end, he knelt and begged her to love him, earning a chance for them to try being together.

Over the following year, Qi Xuanyi let Su Xingzhi use his black-clad guards to help the helpless, and encouraged Shen Siqing to grow stronger, all while waiting for Su Xingzhi to truly fall in love with him.

But fate had other plans. After a snow disaster in Beiyu City, Shen Siqing returned to the capital and was placed under house arrest. Su Yixing, who looked just like Su Xingzhi, was abducted by Xiao Jiye.

After Su Yixing escaped, Shu Yi tricked Su Xingzhi into returning to the capital. Qi Xuanyi rushed back to save her and made her take an amnesia pill, hoping they could start a new life together. Half a year later, he took his own life to save Su Xingzhi.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Shen Siqing escaped to the borderlands and became emperor with the help of the deceased second male lead.
