This book is a collection of short stories and short stories by Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize for Literature. The original Polish book is titled "The Drums Are Sounding". In 2002, it won Poland's highest literary award, the Nike Prize Readers' Choice Award. The collection of novels includes 19 works: a bored woman enters the detective novel she is reading; a man is obsessed with "the ugliest woman in the world" and follows her throughout his life; a British psychology professor is trapped in a foreign land for a week and encounters many dangers; a female dancer pays tribute to her long-lost father over and over again Writing letters that will never be sent; foreigners entering a strange city and "changing" their identities inspired by the sound of drums on the street... Tokarczuk uses 19 elven-like stories to write about all kinds of loners in different senses, unfolding their unique adventures in the overlapping of the soul and the real world.

This book is like a kaleidoscope, showing the wonderful world of all kinds of lonely people. Each story is so unique and makes me feel the complexity of human nature and the colorfulness of life. There is a sentence in one of the stories that I like very much: "Loneliness is a kind of strength that allows us to face our true selves." This sentence is really inspiring and makes me understand that I must maintain myself in marriage. As a newly married person, I will draw strength from this book and understand life better.
